Caffeine & Inkwells uses toggl to track time spent on projects. It's important for us to track how we spend our time so we can find areas that we need to work on. If we've been burnin' the midnight oil, then we'd like to track it so we can plan some studio downtime.
We round to the nearest 15 min increment, so if a task takes 5 minutes, document it as 1/4 hour.
Toggl is a tool to help you remember what you were working on, but it's more important that we summarize the information at the end of each day so we get a holistic view of the type of work we're doing.
We don't need to record every little task in a day - refer to the guide below for tips! Ideally, tracking time should only take a fraction of the day, but will help you better gauge how long tasks take and where the studio may need improvement.
Remember to list which project you worked on. Each new project should be added to the toggl list. If it's not, then go ahead and add it with the naming convention: ProjNumber | Project Name
If you're working on a non-billable, then set the project as a Caffeine & Inkwells project. We like to track skunkwork development (side projects), marketing, and time spent working on administrative tasks such as documenting your time. Use the Tags function to help track specific areas of focus.
Use descriptions to help remind you what you've worked on.
Ex: Concept dev for initial presentation; Rendering of Interior View; proj specs; time track
Use tags to help analyze what kind of task was done. We like using the project phase list as a guide, but this doesn't always capture a project task. Use your best judgement, or ask your project lead if you're unsure.
